New Yorgi Eesti Kool

New Yorgi Eesti Kool sündis jälle 12. novembril 1950, kui peeti avaaktus NY Eesti Majas. 1970dal aastal kooli ametlikuks nimeks sai “New Yorgi Eesti Haridusseltsi Eesti Kool”.

The New York Estonian School was re-established on November 12, 1950, when the opening ceremony was held at the NY Estonian House. In the 1970s, the school's official name became "The NYEHS Estonian School".

Kooli juhatajate tervitus esimesel koolipäeval lastele ja lastevanematele

New Yorgi Eesti Haridusseltsi Eesti Kooli võib võrrelda mesilaste parvega.   Kaks korda kuus lendavad 50 last oma vanematega uksest sisse ja sumisevad oma vahel eesti keele tunnis, laulutunnis ja rahvatantsu tantsides. 
Vaheajal on trepist alla jooksvat mesilasparve kaugele kuulda. Tihti peab kiiresti eemalegi hüppama.
Eesti Koolis õpitu arendab lastes uhkust ja arusaamist, et nad on rikka ja väärtusliku eesti kultuuri edasikandjad. Õpitut tutvustatakse kohalikes koolides ja ameerika sõpradele.
Esindades Eesti Kooli õpetajaid täname Teid Eesti Instintuudi poolt saadetud õpikute eest. Siinsete laste eesti keele tase on väga erinev. Mida suurem on kooliraamatute valik seda paremini saavad õpetajad oma tööd teha.
Suur aitähh ja elagu imeilus eesti keel!

Estonian School Rules
1. Ma katsun rääkida Eesti Koolis ainult EESTI KEELT!
I will try my best to speak only ESTONIAN while at Estonian School.
2.Ma tulen kooli õppevahenditega (raamatud, vihikud, õpikud, pliiats
ja kodutöö). Tunni ajal kasutan ainult õppevahendeid, tunniga mitte seonduvad asjad (arvutimängud, mänguasjad, raamatud jne.) on mul kotis kuni vahetunnini.
I will come to class prepared with my books, workbooks, notebooks, pencil and homework. During class I will only use my school supplies.  I will not touch or play with any electronic games, toys, other books, etc. until recess.
3. Ma ei söö ega joo klassis tunni ajal.
I will not eat or drink during class.
4. Ma ei vii sööki ega jooki trepist üles ega alla – ma söön ainult kohvikus.
I will not bring food or drinks upstairs or downstairs – I will eat in the dining
area.
5. Ma ei jookse treppidel ega tõuka teisi õpilasi. Suures saalis  ei lase liugu ega  
sõida toolide või laudadega.
I will not run on the stairs or push/shove other students.  In the big hall I will not         
slide or ride the chairs or tables.
6. Ma ei riku ega lõhu klassiruumide seinu ega mööblit.
I will not ruin or break the walls or furniture in the classrooms.
7. Ma ei loobi pabereid tualettruumi põrandale. Ma ei mängi veekraanidega ega
seebinõudega.
I will not throw paper onto the bathroom floor.  I will not play with the water     
faucets or soap containers.
8. Ma käitun viisakalt ja kuulan vanemate ning õpetajate sõna.
I will behave politely and listen to my parents and teachers.

About Estonian School

The New York Estonian School was established on October 18, 1939.
The principal was Salme Kaiv, the wife of Johannes Kaiv, who was the Estonian Ambassador-In-Exile in the United States for many years
The teachers were Filitsata Gleser (Skonberg), Linda Dreyman, F. Raudsepp, and Mrs. Trei. The school met on Friday evenings from 7-9 PM,
And there were 20 students present on the first school day.

The school met at the NY Estonian Educational Society facilities in Harlem at Lenox Avenue, and then later on 125th Street.
The school closed its doors in 1947, but was reborn again in 1950, when a ceremonial gathering was held at the new home
of the Society on 34th Street.
